Hopefully the team can reassemble
next season with minimal changes. Thanks to all who have helped,
starting with Yilmaz whos enthusiasm rubs off onto the kids and by the
rates the kids are growing is going to suffer an injury with the team
after game 'stacks on the mill'. The kids have all improved out
of
sight and are playing to position due to Yilmaz's coaching.
Thanks to
the Mums and Dads for getting the kids to training and all the Mums who
brought and cut oranges. Nick and Terry's warm ups have been
crucial
to many of the wins. Thanks to Linda's Dad for all the photographs he
has supplied. Well done all.

Match Reports (reverse chronological order)
Round 15:
Glen Eira Phoenix vs Hampton Hammers - 08 September 2007
The last game and
possibly the best game of the season. Both teams were evenly
matched. It was nil all but a deserved draw as both teams played
so well. Goalies for both teams stopped heaps of goals and every
Phoenix player contributed in some way. Our defence has been
impeccable all year with our players giving away height in many cases
but the tenacity has been number 1. Henry, Jayden, Johnny, Conor,
Julian and Brandon keep driving the ball forward feeding Adam, Melina,
David, Dylan and Matthew. The forwards all had shots with Jayden
and Adam nearly shooting miracle long goals and Melina, David and Dylan
all having near misses. It was a fantastic game and a great end
to the season. The parents can relax for a few months.

Round 14:
Glen Eira Phoenix V Brighton Red Devils - 01 September 2007
We travelled to Brighton
and had a hard fought tussel against the Red
Devils. The game was neck and neck the whole way with the Devils
scoring twice and Melina scoring 1. Another great team effort.

Round 13:
Glen Eira Phoenix vs Sandringham Knights - 25 August 2007
The long awaited return
of the clash with the mighty Knights. After
last time 7 nil loss Phoenix were keen to redeem themselves. Thay did
a fine job I hear and kept the Knights to 4. We didn't score, but it
must have been a huge effort to stop the Knights scoring more than
that. Well done.

Round 12:
Glen Eira Phoenix U8 vs Beaumaris Mantarays - 11 August 2007
Well, we had a fair
percentage booster against the Mantarays with 6 different scorers for
Phoenix. Minutes into the game, Adam had scored twice. Soon after, an
own goal by a corner kick from Melina. Melina then scored 3 more, with
more goals scored by a well positioned Julian from another corner,
Conor with dazzling footwork, David steaming up the middle and Jayden
getting another one of his high balls into the net. Was great that Glen
was there to see it. Henry and Dylan kept creating opportunities around
the goals. The defenders gave the opposition very limited space, with
Johnny, Brandon, Matthew and Jayden in goal, constantly sending
it our way. With a healthy half time score board, the coach had the
luxury of rotating players and Adam and Melina were like stone walls in
defence with Adam nearly scoring from a goalie AFL kick. A well
polished performance which has coaching, admin staff, members and fans
abuzz with excitement. 10 nil - a great win.

Round 11: Glen Eira U8
Phoenix vs Brighton Bullets - 04 August 2007
Another home game and
with Nick and Terry's warm-up drills including corner kicks, and
Yilmaz's inspirational speech, the Phoenix found the net in the 1st
minute. Adam took a corner and it found Melina's knee and went
in. The teamwork grew an extra leg this week and the defence
blocked the Bullets best striker numerous times until he got a long
shot in. Henry saved heaps of hot shots in the 1st half and Dylan made
a couple of miraculous saves in the second half with the coach of the
under 9's (Dylan's Dad) looking on with excitement. David, Adam, Mathew
and Melina created many shots which the goalie did well to save most
of. Johnny, Conor, Julian and Jayden kept driving the ball forward and
Melina goaled 3 more times with a couple of left footers after more
excellent teamwork. A fantastic effort the coach would be proud of.
Also, get well soon Jayden's Dad Glen.

Round 10: Glen Eira U8
Phoenix vs Sandringham Brumbies - 28 July 2007
After a very even game at
home we ended up with a 1 nil win. The defences for both sides were
fantastic and after great teamwork Melina finally got one through the
opposition. Again the defence was worked overtime and held out numerous
attempts. Some of our defenders who are not as tall as some of the
opposition are incredible the way they keep driving to the centre and
forwards. A very tough match. Special mentions to Henry, Conor,
Matthew, Johnny and Julian.

Round 9:
Glen Eira U8 Phoenix vs Beaumaris Seahawks - 21 July 2007
A great 4 to 1 win by the
team with David kicking 1 goal and Melina 3 and the team played without
any weak links at all. The defence has been impeccable starting with
the goal keepers. The passing and teamwork continues to draw oohs and
aaahs from the crowd. Great effort team.

Round 8: Glen Eira U8
Phoenix vs Beaumaris Penguins - 14 July 2007
After the mid season
break the team came back refreshed except Jayden who had just had a
long flight from South Africa. Hopefully no SA teams have tried to sign
him up. Melina dribbled and weaved and scored in the first couple of
minutes to the enjoyment of the crowd and the Penguins evened up soon
after. The rest of the game was a hard slog with both defences under
pressure. The skills from both teams were great and Henry and Adam
saved numerous goals. Johnny, Mathew, Julian, Conor continually drove
the ball our way. David, Jayden, Melina, Dylan and Adam had quite a few
shots and Henry enjoyed his freedom when relieved from the goals.
A great game fitting for
a draw.

Round
7: Glen Eira U8 Phoenix vs East Bentleigh Strikers - Saturday 30 June
2007
Well we finally got back
on the winners board with a disciplined 5 nil win over the Strikers.
Melina and David slotted through 2 goals each and Mathew kicked 1 goal.
Disappointingly Dylan copped a ball in the face from friendly fire and
had 2 loose teeth removed before he wanted them out. Hopefully the
tooth fairy came early. The teamwork and passing was exceptional from
all and overall a well polished performance.

Round 6: Glen Eira U8
Phoenix vs
Hampton Hammers - Saturday 23 June 2007
We had a close fought
1-all draw with both defences under the pump all day and great saves
were made by Henry and Adam. Both teams also has a disallowed goal
each, but the consistent David came through after great teamwork and
found the back of the net. The new guys, Matthew, Julian and Conor have
really clicked in well. Dylan did well through the centre with
Melina and Jayden having a few close shots. Johnny kept thumping the
ball our way. A great effort keeping the crowd on their toes.

Round
5: Glen
Eira U8 Phoenix vs vs Brighton Red Devils - Saturday 16 June 2007
In a high pressure game
we went down 3 to 2 with 1 an own goal, so we deserved a draw but the
standard of the kids in both teams was exceptional. Goals went to
Jayden and Adam due to great team efforts.

Round
4: Glen
Eira U8 Phoenix vs Sandringham Knights - Saturday 09 June 2007
A tough game was had
today with us suffering a 7 nil loss. We stayed with the Knights until
just before half time, but then the floodgates opened. They scored
frequently with a few defence slip-ups, so a bit more training is
needed so we can square the ledger next time. We did have our own
shining knight in David who kicked our only goal. Better luck next time.

Round 3: Glen Eira U8
Phoenix vs Glen Eira U8 Falcons - Saturday
02 June 2007
We played the Glen Eira
Falcons at Mackie Road and ended up with a competitively fought 4-nil
victory. The Falcons were vigorously defending well before great
teamwork finished off by Melina resulted in our first goal. In the
second half, the Phoenix continued to attack the goals, with Matthew
finding the back of the net for his first with his new club and Dylan
dribbing another through soon after having the crowd in rapture. Near
the end, an unfortunate own goal gave us our fourth. Adam and Henry
swapped goalie position and also both provided good running play
forward, well supported by Conor, Jayden and David who created
opportunities. Johnny and Brandon were busy driving through the
midfield. A great team effort with good passing. Well done Phoenix.

Round 2: Glen Eira U8
Phoenix vs Brighton Bullets - Saturday
26 May 2007
We
journeyed to a windy
Dendy Park to take on Brighton Bullets and had a very close tussle.
Adam resumed from last week and found the net. Melina and David
finding the same and David again later for his second. Each goal scorer
kicking goals with their
opposite feet after following the ball in and having the goalie fumble,
so the skills are great. Brandon made his first appearance and was
strong in attack. Julian, Johnny, Matthew and Jayden were hammered in
defence but weathered the storm. Henry and Dylan saved many goals and
we won 4 to 3. A great game with great skills from both sides.

Round 1: Glen
Eira U8 Phoenix vs Sandringham Brumbies - Saturday 19 May 2007
Well
we finally got to kick the season off at home against the Sandringham
Brumbies. The team mainly unchanged from last year, slotted into
teamwork quickly. Minutes into the season, Adam found the back of the
net, and proceeded to do the same three more times and would have
nursed a sore foot at the end of the game. David snuck in for a goal as
well after great goal keeping from Dylan and Jayden. Melina, Dylan,
Conor and Christian drove the ball from the centre after invincible
defence from Johnny, Julian, Matthew and Paul. 5 nil was the result and
many thanks to Christian and Paul from the under 7's for filling in.
They both have big futures. Conor, Matthew and Julian have all slotted
straight into the team well.
